Operation Beautify: The Master Bathroom Vanity

If you have been following along with my blog for a while, you know that when we bought this house it was pretty much a “50 shades of wood” situation.  I’ve spent the past two years painting and updating lots of surfaces in our home- trim, kitchen cabinets, walls.  Although the end is not quite in sight yet, we are definitely making progress! Our master bathroom was one area that I had no idea how to tackle.  Here’s the situation; it’s a DREAM bathroom.  It’s huge and has every feature that I could ever imagine wanting.  I actually often feel spoiled in here, and then feel guilty about not loving the cosmetic features in the room.  The best way I know how to put it…this is the ultimate “1980’s custom designed” nightmare style.  I basically thought the countertops (which are granite) were the ugliest things on the planet, and the floors just aren’t my style (I feel like they always look dirty). I knew that there wasn’t money in any budget to redo this bathroom…or even …

Take a Seat: Playroom Ottoman

This is a sponsored post. However, all opinions are completely my own. It’s that time again…I once again had the opportunity to participate in the Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest for the month of November.  This month, the theme was “Take a Seat” and the sponsor was none other than Minted.  Have you ever checked out the products available on Minted?  Oh my.  Beautiful. Although I knew Minted mostly for their artistic prints and stationary, they also have an entire home collection, including fabric.  For this project, Minted graciously supplied each participant with 5 yards of fabric of our choice.  I spent the better part of a week swooning over the hundreds of gorgeous patterns available (many of which have entire color palettes to chose from!).  I narrowed them down to these 9 options, and I really wanted each and every one of them… I think my saving grace in decision making was that I really, really wanted to tackle a piece for our newly reconfigured playroom (this past month we moved my office downstairs to …

Spray it Pretty: The Updated Vanity

This is a sponsored post.  However, all opinions are completely my own. Last month, I stumbled upon something called The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest and knew that it was something I wanted to be part of.  I was lucky enough to get to participate in the October contest; the theme this month was “Spray it Pretty”. The sponsor for October was HomeRight- check out their full line of products, including paint sprayers, spray shelters, heat guns, and more – here.  For this contest, HomeRight provided me with their Finish Max Fine Finish HVLP Sprayer.  To say I was excited is clearly an understatement.  I was THRILLED to get to try out this sprayer…I’ve often read about them and wondered, but hadn’t invested in trying one out up until now. For the contest, I decided to tackle this little “diamond in the rough” vanity.  I loved the lines and detail on this piece, and I’ve been wanting to redo a vanity for a while now.  I knew this piece would be the perfect candidate to Spray it Pretty.  I also …

Updated Hutch- Final Reveal!

Drum roll please… I’ve been waiting for this moment for weeks…the hutch I’ve been updating is finally FINISHED!  (If you missed the previews see them here and here.)  This one has been a lot of work, and at moments I wondered if I had perhaps finally bitten off more than I could chew!  I’m pretty sure that this project is the most time-consuming I’ve completed to date, with the exception of our kitchen cabinets. That being said, I’m so glad that I took the time to get this piece RIGHT.  I love the outcome and know that it will make a gorgeous statement piece that it was intended to be. Just as a refresher, here are some pictures of this hutch in it’s original state.  I found it on the online auction website Everything But the House (check it out at www.ebth.com), placed a bid, and won!  I really loved the shape and lines of this piece from the get-go, and knew with a pop of color it could become a show-stopper piece!
