10 Minute DIY Baby/Pet Gate

Goodness, where is the time going these days?! I’ve been meaning to get this post out for at least a week now…Christmas festivities keep taking priority, and of course I wouldn’t have it any other way.  But, without further ado, one of the easiest projects we’ve DIY’ed in a while…a baby/pet (pet in our case!) gate. Since our darling babies are now 6 and 4 years old, I thought we were LONG past the need for baby gates.  It was a glorious feeling to move so freely from one room of the house to another, without the hazard of stepping over a gate.  Alas, that short window of time has ended.  I had a brief period of losing my mind, and agreed to get a dog.  (In all honesty, we have the sweetest dog on the planet so I really should not complain.)  But, we are back to needing gates in our house.

Furniture Painting 101: The Tools

This post includes affiliate links.  I would never recommend a product that I haven’t personally used and loved.  When I started this blog, I was hopeful that I would inspire others to begin DIY or repurposing projects of their very own.  I’m really excited to report that it must be working!  I’ve been having quite a few people reach out to me asking for tips and suggestions as they embark on their very own projects. Many of the questions stem around painting; specifically painting furniture.  What type of paint to use?  What type of primer?  Do you really have to sand?  Where do you start?  What if you mess up?  How many coats?  Sanding…really?! I thought it would be helpful for many of my readers to begin a series on Furniture Painting.  My hope is that this will be a resource for those interested in painting furniture, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, or other pieces.  I’ve mentioned all of these specific products, as well as general tips, in many of my other posts.  However, I’ll do …

How Painting Has Built My Confidence

Did you read that title and wonder what on earth I could possibly be talking about?  How could PAINTING have anything to do with confidence?!  Let me start by telling a little story… As a newly-wed in our first home, I was anxious to add my own touches by painting the walls.  I remember feeling completely overwhelmed as I flipped through the humungous color swatch booklet my cousin brought over.  I vaguely even remember that I was so overwhelmed that I defaulted most of the decisions on colors my husband and mother in law liked.  Regardless of who made the decisions, the colors were selected and the paint was purchased.  I’m talking paint for an entire house- three bedrooms, several bathrooms, kitchen, living room, hall and stairway- everything. I asked my dad to help with the painting; he’s so good that he can do everything by hand (no taping involved!) and it looks perfect.  Here is the really funny part:  I thought we would finish our paint job in a weekend.  A WEEKEND.  Just me and him …
